Overpopulation doomsayers were scaremongering then and now.

What happens is people use their ingenuity to get more resources, what with mechanization, GM etc.

Of course getting a country rich will stop massive population growth too.Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04515115783016240375noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-34993014.post-90794471582618758952007-07-19T14:53:00.000+01:002007-07-19T14:53:00.000+01:00StanWish I'd written that.""This is why I am so op...Stan

Wish I'd written that.

""This is why I am so opposed to our government policy (and the liberal left's favourite theme) of "international development" and aid. At some point - who knows when - an ice age will wipe out billions of people. This is certain.

With the current state of things, however, the bulk of population growth is not coming from the developed nations. We're barely at replacement level in this country while other European nations - such as Italy and Ireland are well below that level.

The VHEM and Optimum Population Trust seem to think it would be a good idea if we in the west stopped having babies - but we pretty much have already.

We're not the problem - it is in Africa and Asia where the problem lies, although they are rapidly exporting the problem to the developed nations through the Labour policy of open door immigration.

The global population is predicted to reach 10 billion by the middle of THIS century at current rate of growth. This is a much more real and substantial concern than the hypothetical "global warming" - not leaast because the only way of feeding those extra 4 billion people is to turn every available piece of cultivatable land over to agriculture. Imagine the devastation that is going to have on biodiversity!

But those extra 4 billion will not come from the west (except through immigration).

This is why I am so opposed to our government policy (and the liberal left's favourite theme) of "international development" and aid.
