Greater Manchester Police: Don't arrest muslims!

Not during Ramadan.

The advice was emailed out to officers working in Moss Side, Hulme, Whalley Range, Rusholme, Fallowfield, Ardwick, Longsight, Gorton and Levenshulme.

Police said it was not a blanket ban, just a "request for sensitivity".

The email stressed the order did not apply to on-the-spot arrests, only the execution of arrest warrants.

Oh, that's all right then!
Actually, no it isn't. Do the police show "sensitivity" towards Christians during Easter or Christmas? No, they don't. Do they refrain from arresting Hindus during Diwali. No, they don't. Do the police adopt a softly, softly approach to Jews at Hannukah? Don't be daft.

Only one group gets special treatment - Muslims.

Quite agree, the authorities should always attempt to appear completely impartial as this sort of thing only increases resentment and in the end makes for even worse community relations. The danger of such political correctness is that when it starts to unravel the reaction is far more extreme.
