Tales of modern Britain

A selection of stories from one English city, Sheffield.

A cemetery plagued by vandalism and yobs

Martin Green, the city council's senior bereavement services manager, said: "Darnall is a secluded little cemetery which suffers from a disproportionate amount of anti-social behaviour."Incidents of fly-tipping, arson, vandalism and graffiti are not uncommon and we do the best we can to address these by working with the police and other supportive agencies, such as Neighbourhoods, Environmental Protection and Street Force.

Any anti-social behaviour is disproportionate.

Scout group under siege

One dad, from Richmond, who didn't want to be named for fear of reprisals, said: "The place is under siege. These youths are out of control. My 11-year-old son goes to scouts there and he is terrified to go in. I know scouting isn't cool but this is beyond a joke."These attacks have been going on for a number of years but in recent months things have started to escalate in terms of frequency and the level of threats and intimidation."Parents have had missiles thrown at their cars as they drop off and collect their children and the youths yell and scream at the children while they are in the scout hut."

It's been going on for years and the police can't stop it?

Teenage gang control the streets

On Tuesday night the yobs hurled a firework at a car, blowing the front of the vehicle off, and residents also say the youths have tried to turn their cars into fireballs by setting light to their petrol tanks. The gang, who roam the streets after dark, even scrawled a graffiti 'tag' on a car – calling themselves the S14 Crew.

Resident Lesley Madin, aged 26, said she woke on Wednesday morning to find the vandals had smashed her car window and stolen her stereo. The mum-of-one said: "This has been going on for a couple of months now but it is getting worse and worse every day and we don't feel as if the police are interested. "On Tuesday night there was a massive explosion and all the residents went out into the street."Lesley said the gang of around 15 to 20 youths were aged between eight and 15.

This is the Britain created by the liberal progressives. Nice,eh? The liberal progressives will tell you that it's not really that bad, just an unreasonable fear of crime - the result of overactive imaginations.

Still gonna believe 'em?

These are crazy, frightening examples of where our country is heading to. I am very deeply troubled by this. And I must admit to a sense of fear because I see our country going down the toilet and I don't know what I can do about it, nor do I see anyone else really campaigning in the mainstream against it.
Something that really depressed and upset me a lot this year, was to see all the England flags flying from peoples rooftops and windows back in June/July - all just for a bloody football team, something of utterly no consequence at all. Have we become zombies? Is that all we can get excited about? If just a tenth of that passion for football could be channeled into social/political action, we could easily put things right. But it seems like almost nobody cares any more. As long as Wayne Rooney is scoring goals for "En-ger-land", we've got our fix, like junkies. Have we really come to this? I hope not.

This is why law abiding people should be able to have guns. If kids start anything like the car firework incident they should be shot on the spot. no need for trials.
