A confession

Yep - it's time to 'fess up.

You see, I've never found French and Saunders particularly funny.

That makes two of us then because they are and have always been dreadful. Shout a lot and run around a lot= funny. No it does not, otherwise playgrounds across the land are full of small comedians.

Make that three.

There was one extended sketch I did enjoy, though - two stroppy teenagers on a school trip, portrayed with hilarious accuracy.

As see it, all their comedy stops at that 15-year-old level; a characteristic sadly shared with their associates Rik Mayall and Ade Edmondson.

Ronnie Barker knew what the problem was and quitted TV comedy quite suddenly. He said you have to accept that ideas dry up and there is a danger that you think that others will find you eternally funny. They don't. Tedium sets in.
F&S are examples of those who still think otherwise....
