Ranting Stan's Irrational Hatred Of The Week: England football flags on cars

I hope, by now, that anyone who reads this blog knows that I am a patriot and nationalist - and very, very proud of both my country and its flag.

I also should say that I have no objection to people hanging bunting or draping the English flag from their homes, but I draw the line at those who have the English flag fluttering from their cars.

I don't object because of any safety reasons or because of any assumed disrespect to the English flag - my objection is to the sheer bloody hypocrisy of people driving around with an English flag proclaiming their patriotism from a German/Japanese/Italian/French/Korean car.

Yes, I know people have no choice these days if they are buying a mainstream car, but to buy a foreign mainstream car - but it still smacks of hypocrisy.

I never realised how much 13 years of socialist brainwashing has got to people.

This was the opinion my lentil-munching grauniad mates used to spout when the evil(sic) Tories were last in power...

Still at least its posted as an irrational hatred.

I stuck mine on yesterday. Hee.

Looking slightly tatty after about 20 min driving. Obviously duff quality.

Wheel chairs are made in this country, and I saw one with an OAP... sporting two flags on the hand grips.
The image spoke volumes really.

You could by that infamous Japanese brand, Nissan, made in the well-known Japanese city of...er...Sunderland.

Anon - we're all entitled to our opinion.

sarah - the flags are probably made in China.

bernard - yes, kind of appropriate.

Brian, follower .... - Nissans made in Sunderland are no more English than Vauxhalls made in Spain.

What I object to is the word "England" across the centre of the flag. Do the French or Germans do this? Presumably they believe their citizens can recognise their own national flag! And what is the point; I assume that anyone who doesn't recognise the Cross of St George has had such a poor education that they can't read, which is why everything these days has to have instructions in the form of pictures.

If I can find a flag which has not been defaced, I'll buy one ready for 23rd April next year (and hope I can remember where I put it for safety).

They are flying from cars whether you like it or not. You'll have to live with it - for 2 weeks.

I'm supporting the football team, not a car manufacturer.

You only have to look at the ethnicity of the average England player now to realise that the England team is about english as Ghana.

It's amazing, isn't it - I spend all my time constructing thought provoking and insightful posts and the ones that get all the comments are the frivolous ones!
