Success of abstinence in cutting teen pregnancies is a 'myth'
Err - correct me if I'm wrong, but as far as my recollection of biology goes, if you don't have sex you can't get pregnant. So it can't be a myth.
What the article is actually about is some research that claims to demonstrate that it's contraception that prevents teenage pregnancies - not abstinence. Seeing how our teenage girls have access to contraception by the truckload, learn more about sex at school than English and still manage to get pregnant I'd reckon that research to be dubious.
When you realise that the organisation behind the research is the Guttmacher Institute - who have a long held belief in contraception and abortion as a means to control teenage pregnancy - you might to wonder if they may not have been a teensy weensy bit biased.
When you realise that the man the institute was named after, Alan Guttmacher, was a former president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of America - who are "pro-choice" (that's choice for the mother, not the child), in favour of more sex education and open expression of sexuality - you could be forgiven for thinking that there may be an ulterior motive behind the research.
When you realise that the PPFA is the biggest provider of abortions in the USA - around 250,000 each year - then you could be forgiven for thinking that they really have got a bloody cheek.

When the missus was in maternity hospital(very long time ago now)she reckoned there were a number of girls there who just saw it as a ticket to a nice council flat and welfare, or at the very least as a no problem situation since society would provide. Have heard much the same thing from a nurse I knew.
Not sure any sort of sex education is the answer, what we need, as in so many things, is to stop providing incentives for irresponsible behaviour.
