Following on from my post on Monday, suggesting that UKIP's next step is to win defections from the Tories it appears that they have done just that. Two Tory peers have switched their allegiance to UKIP giving the party their first Parliamentary presence.
Lord Pearson of Rannoch and Lord Willoughby de Broke joined Ukip in protest at Mr Cameron’s alleged failure to pursue a Eurosceptic agenda. The move gives Ukip its first representation at Westminster.
Although the defection of these two has been on the cards since 2004 when they urged voters to support UKIP in the Euro elections it still represents a major coup for UKIP and a significant success for their new leader, Nigel Farage, in particular. I doubt that the defection of these two alone will ruffle many feathers in the Cameron camp, but if their defection encourages others to follow suit - especially if they can attract one or two sitting MP's - then that might create a bigger impact.
Things are looking up for UKIP. They are starting to get serious on policies and are starting to attract more heavy weight support. They need to build on this momentum and not make the mistake they have in the past of thinking "job done" and letting it all slip away again.

It's funny how supporters of the mainstream parties wet themselves over something like Mote - conveniently forgetting the parade of deviants, miscreants, racists, fraudsters and other ne'er do wells who have graced their own parties over the years.
I certainly hope so. UKIP now seems the only party that is worth bothering to walk to the polling station for, assuming they are standing in my constituency.
I see nothing about Cameron's Conservatives that is remotely worth voting for. If the Tories are not for a British nation and culture, encouraging effort, small government low taxes and individual freedom what use are they?
