Melanie Phillips has an excellent article on her site regarding the threat posed by Islamism to western civilisation.
There is a persistent refusal to accept that we are in the throes of a holy war waged upon the western world for more than 25 years without our even recognising it because it doesn’t fit our definition of war. It is a world war being fought in many disparate theatres with many proximate causes, but all with one single coherent aim: to defeat western civilisation, establish Islam as the dominant power in the world and restore the medieval Islamic caliphate.
We can see the outcome: in the daily violence in the French suburbs, sanitised by the French government but described by French police as a permanent intifada; in the similar violence in Belgium; in the murder of Theo van Gogh in the Netherlands and the terrorisation of Dutch politicians who speak out; or in the global riots, kidnappings and murders after the re-publication of the Danish Mohammed cartoons.

It amazes me that so many still refuse to accept what is really going on with Islamism and, worse still, refuse to think about or recognise the potential consequences for them and their liberal world view. How can any liberal who really, truly believes in gay rights or equal rights for women not be concerned about the rise of radical Islam? There are only three reasons why they couldn't be.
Reason 1; they are too stupid to understand.
Reason 2; they are too lazy to think about it
Reason 3; their hatred for the west far outweighs their proclaimed support for these rights they have supposedly championed for decades.
As virtually any psychologist will tell you, at the heart of most acts of self destruction lies a deep self loathing and progressive liberalism is based on promoting guilt, remorse, regret and, ultimately, self-loathing. For decades they have been doing this through the media, through schools and universities, through the police and justice system and, more recently, through government. The liberal progressives are on a one way trip to civilisational suicide.
The trouble is, they are taking the rest of us with them.

Indeed. Because Islam dictates a way of life, and is not just a religion, it is fundamentally incompatible with any idea of individual freedom. We need a rational basis for our laws not millenia old texts.
I have been looking to link to a decent site opposed to Islam that is not one of these lunatic "kill them all" sites, and does not support far right groups or extreme gay-bashing versions of republican Christianity.
MP looks a good bet.
I'd recommend Dhimmi Watch or Jihad Watch, myself. You do get ranters and ravers commenting on there - from both sides of the fence, but generally the actual site content is well researched, written and presented.
Not sure if they are far right, gay bashing or Christian or not - I can't say that I've noticed any particular tendency towards such a point of view - but you never know.
