In his most recent diatribe - sorry - interview, Al Qaeda's deputy leader, Ayman al-Zawahiri, has stated that he wants the US to remain in Iraq for 2-3 hundred years.
"We ask Allah that they only get out of it after losing two or three hundred thousand killed."
At the current rate of around 900 a year, it looks like it could be a long haul.
