Modern Britain: Irresponsible and selfish

A six year old girl mown down in a hit and run in Liverpool.

She was walking along a road in Huyton near Liverpool with a woman and a five-year-old girl when she was hit by a Fiat Ducato van just before 2200 BST.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission is investigating the crash, as a similar van was earlier seen being driven erratically in the nearby town of Prescot.

Two things about this. First of all, if the police didn't keep relying on "safety" cameras and actually tried putting out some patrols then this van may have been stopped earlier and the young girl might still be alive.

The other thing is - what were a 6 year old and a 5 year old doing out on the streets of Liverpool at 10 o'clock at night? They should have been in bed.

I fear the whole episode is yet another damning indictment of post modern Britain. Irresponsibility and selfishness reigns supreme.
