Police Federation leaders will tell MPs licensing reforms are not working with emergency 999 calls going unanswered as police are "tied up with intervening in pub fights or drunken street brawls."
Why is anyone surprised? This is exactly what most people predicted would happen. The only ones who thought otherwise were the government who claimed that the relaxed drinking laws would lead to a relaxed "continental style" drinking culture.
The fact that they got that so completely and utterly wrong tells you all you need to know about how out of touch the modern politician is with the real world - and how they never listen.
